Bogdan Kanyuka CV

Artist Statement
My visual language gravitates toward minimalism, where ideas are distilled into their clearest form through a symbol or sign.
My practice focuses on ceramics and printmaking, particularly linocut and monotype, where precision and unpredictability coexist. This embrace of experimentation and error is central to my practice, making the process as vital as the outcome.

I frequently turn to animal imagery—not as an animalist, but as a way to develop a symbolic alphabet. These zoomorphic figures function as signs that bridge personal concerns with collective memory, becoming both intimate and universal.
In ceramics, I am drawn to abstraction: simplified forms that are stripped of detail yet remain immediately recognizable. Across mediums, I aim to reassemble and reinterpret traditional art forms, including icon painting and engraving, situating them within a contemporary dialogue.
For me, art is not only a final object but also a process of transformation. It is a space of energy, inquiry, and discovery, where trial and improvisation give rise to new visual myths.
